Woman's blind date takes dark turn as 'charming' man makes shocking confession - and she calls police

Janey Voyek met a man named James Coolack, who she went on a date with after being set up by her brother - but things took a dark turn when he confessed to murder

An Idaho woman has shared her shocking experience of a blind date with a man who confessed to being wanted for murder in Texas. The woman, Janey Voyek, revealed that she had met the man through her brother, Eddie.

"My brother saw him on the side of the road, a veteran looking for help," she told Fox affiliate WXIX-TV. She added that her brother had even offered the man a job. According to Voyek, she first met the man, known as James Coolack, last Thursday. "He's so charismatic and so charming and can tell you the right things you want to hear," she said.

However, the situation took a dark turn on Saturday when Coolack's true identity was exposed. "He just kind of got mad and crazy, and just bluntly told me that he had murdered his brother two years ago," Voyek claimed.

She also mentioned that she believed Coolack was intoxicated at the time. Alarmed by the confession, Voyek ended the call and immediately texted her brother, who received the same confession from Coolack, reports the Mirror US.

"Eddie kicked him out of the house and his stuff, and contacted the police," Voyek stated. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office later confirmed that a deputy had located Coolack outside of Pomeroy and detained him.

Further investigation revealed that his real name was Kevin and he indeed had an outstanding warrant for murder. Coolack is currently being held in the Carroll County jail as he awaits extradition back to Houston. Authorities have stated that Coolack shot and killed his brother in 2022.

"There was this sense of closure in this case once he was apprehended," said Sgt. Cullen Duncan from the Houston Police Department. Voyek said: "I did believe that it was only a matter of time before he was apprehended. I'm just happy to help them get the closure and they rest at ease that now Kyle is locked up and nobody else is in danger."

The woman, who remains angry over the situation, has learned a valuable lesson from the experience, advising: "just be careful what you do and who you talk to, and don't rush to let somebody in your home."

Voyek expressed relief that the truth had emerged when it did, and that she wasn't too deeply involved in the relationship. "Would he have beat me? Would he have tried anything with me and essentially killed me? " Voyek pondered.

The shocking news comes just days after the body of a Texas man accused of murdering his wife was found hanging from a tree two miles from the murder scene. Officers from the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office discovered John Venegas Romero, 24, after a bystander reported seeing a person dangling from a tree.
