Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe appeared on Sunday Brunch, where she opened up about her character's new storyline as she admitted that she 'couldn't rehearse it'

Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe was left fighting back tears as she admitted that her characters cancer storyline ‘hits home’.

The actress, 41, who has played Mercedes in the Channel 4 soap since 2006, is taking on one of her most challenging plots ever as she battles bowel cancer after the time jump.

But it hasn’t been an easy storyline for Jennifer to tackle as her beloved dad Colin sadly lost his life to cancer when she was just 15.

The star appeared on today’s episode of Sunday Brunch alongside hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer and opened up about the heartbreaking real life connection as she admitted that she struggled to rehearse some scenes.

She said: “My dad died from cancer when I was 15 so it hits home every time. The script writers are amazing and when they give you the script I can’t really rehearse it and I ask if we can just go straight for the take because it really does hit home.”
