Emmerdale fans open-mouthed realising Tracy star Amy Walsh has famous soap sister

Amy Walsh has played Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale since 2014, but some fans were surprised to learn that she's not the only member of her family to have appeared on the soap

Emmerdale viewers were taken aback to learn that Amy Walsh, who portrays Tracy Metcalfe, isn't the only member of her family to have graced the Yorkshire-based soap. While most fans are aware that Amy's sister is Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, many were surprised to discover that their older sibling Sally also had a stint on the show, playing teenager Lyn Hutchinson from 1997 to 2000. Sally's character Lyn made her debut in January 1997 and quickly became pals with Kelly (Adele Silva), both of whom were known for their "frightening wild streak."

Lyn was notorious for tormenting one of her classmates and having affairs with Roy Glover and Marlon Dingle, whom she cheated on with Scott Windsor. After finding out about Scott's affair with his stepsister Kelly, Lyn ended things and left the village permanently. Post Emmerdale, Sally has appeared in Cold Feet, Fat Friends, The Bill, Doctors and EastEnders.

In a chat with The Sun, Amy opened up about being the second Walsh sister to join the Emmerdale cast. She said: "When I first joined Emmerdale, me, my Mum and Kimberley all sat together to watch and we had a little bit of a tea party, which was nice. None of us really watched soaps, but because Sally was in Emmerdale before, it is the one we all feel most familiar with, so it's been nice for us to dip back into it."

Soap fans have expressed shock upon realising Sally Walsh and Amy Walsh are related, with one fan eagerly pitching on social media: "So we've had Amy Walsh and Sally Walsh in Emmerdale let's get Kimberley Walsh as a cameo x perfect."

Emmerdale star Amy Walsh, who is happily wedded to EastEnders' Toby-Alexander Smith, recently opened up during the Drama Queens documentary about playing Tracy. She reflected, saying: "Tracy and I are similar really. I hate to say it, but we are," admitting parallels between her and her on-screen character. "We've both kind of got that love for life and people and fun. I'd like to say we also have good morals, but she's just had an affair with her husband's uncle so we're not quite the same!"

Earlier in Emmerdale, standout scenes saw Tracy embroiled in a fiery tryst with her husband Nate's uncle. Speaking of her role, Amy divulged, "I loved the affair stuff, and everyone's like 'Of course you did! You were coming to work and snogging two different men every day!"
