Twisted way schoolboy killers bragged about murder weapon before butchering Shawn Seesahai

The 12-year-old killers who brutally took the life of Shawn Seesahai, 19, bragged about the murder weapon and one of them boasted about owning a machete in the park

'Loving and protective' Shawn Seesahai, 19, tragically lost his life in a random machete attack last year.

Two violent 12-year-old boys savagely knifed the teenager in a park in Bilston, West Midlands on November 13, 2023, after 'roaming the streets looking for a potential victim'. The youths, now aged 13, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have today been sentenced to eight years and six months in custody at Nottingham Crown Court.

Justice Tipples, told the boys she had to consider them both as individuals, but decided on the same minimum term for both of them. She said: "When you killed Shawn he was 19, starting out on his adult life with everything to live for." The judge added: "What you both did was horrific and shocking."

They are believed to be the youngest knife murderers in British legal history. Following their convictions in June, fresh details about their heinous crime emerged, with a haunting picture capturing one of the killers posing with a machete tucked into his trousers, just hours before he stabbed Shawn.

The image, sent on Snapchat, shows the masked boy wearing a grey hooded jumper and joggers with the black handle of the blade within touching distance of his chin. The chilling photo was forwarded to his girlfriend and the other killer, with the rapper's SJ's Prison Freestyle track attached to it.

The court previously heard that one of the killers had a disturbing fascination with knives and his internet search history showed he spent a lot of time searching for similar weapons. He had posed for a photo with the machete and boasted about it to two girls who had been in the park with the pair that day.

One of the girls told police it was not unusual for him to carry the weapon and the two boys would pass it between them. West Midlands Police snagged both children after trawling CCTV, and officers found a machete under the bed of one of the youngsters in November last year.

Speaking after the conviction in June, Jonathan Roe, senior crown prosecutor for CPS West Midlands, said: "Shawn Seesahai was an incredibly brave young man who had a world of opportunities at his feet. Shawn suffered traumatic injuries after being ruthlessly targeted by defendants who had a fixation with violence and were roaming the streets looking for a potential victim.

"This was a horrifying and random act of brutality, perpetrated by two 12-year-olds who should not have been spending their time arming themselves with a machete and preparing to take a life. Today's conviction should send a clear message to those who feel it appropriate to arm themselves with knives or blades - no matter how you may try to justify it, you will face the consequences of your actions."

Shawn had only been in the UK for six months when the stabbing happened. Shawn's parents and sister travelled from Anguilla to see justice done for their son and revealed how they had been left heartbroken by his death.

His mother, Maneshwary, said: "Shawn was such a loving son, he was so well-mannered, looked after us, was loving to everyone and very protective. He always said he wanted to work, he wanted his own house, his own car. He liked basketball and cricket, he loved those sports. He was always listening to music. He spent most of his time at home and didn't want to go out much."
