Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos in talks to join new club after Jurgen Klopp blast
Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos has been a free agent since departing Sevilla over the summer but the defender has now entered talks to join a new club on a different continent
by Nathan Ridley · The MirrorSergio Ramos is in talks to end his break from football by signing for Argentine heavyweights Boca Juniors.
Real Madrid legend Ramos left Sevilla in June after his one-year contract with the La Liga side expired and he's been a free agent since. In that time, the Spaniard has been slammed by former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over his actions in the 2018 Champions League final.
Ramos, 38, cynically dragged down Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in the first half, injuring Klopp's in-form star as Real went on to win the final 3-1. Appearing on ex-Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos' podcast, Einfach mal Lupen, this week, Klopp asked: "Is Mr Sergio Ramos really a good guy?
"He's not my favourite player. The action was brutal. Of course, he can't know that it's bothering his shoulder, but we all know that he accepted it very happily. I could never understand that mentality, I never had players like that and, when I did, I made sure they left."
Spanish outlet Relevo report that Ramos and his representatives are talking to Boca president Riquelme and manager Fernando Gago, formerly Ramos' team-mate in Madrid. The four-time Champions League winner is tempted by the opportunity, considering a short-term move to experience Argentine football.
Boca's bitter rivals, River Plate, reportedly tried to sign Ramos in the summer but he immediately turned them down. That one just one of the offers which the 180-time Spain international has rejected since leaving Sevilla, who he joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
Ramos has also been linked with joining soon-to-be MLS side San Diego, having talked up a move to North America earlier this year. "It is true that the United States is a country that attracts us a lot at the family level, but to this day there is nothing agreed with any team anywhere," Ramos said.

"I don't think about retiring at all, I've felt very good this year. I'm hungry to continue competing and I feel healthy to continue competing."
He also confirmed that he rejected a lifetime contract from Sevilla, saying: "This is a decision that I made on a personal and family level. I'm leaving here as I arrived, without talking about money. They gave me the opportunity to continue with a lifetime contract, but I have made another decision."
