The tragic death of Liam Payne, former One Direction star, is being investigated by authorities in Buenos Aires.

The pop sensation, aged 31, died on Wednesday while on holiday in the Argentine capital. Buenos Aires police confirmed in a statement: "Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo."

An autopsy is now underway as part of the investigation. Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, confirmed that the singer fell into an internal courtyard at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. Speaking to Argentina's Todo Noticias TV channel, Crescenti said: "A few minutes later [an] emergency team arrived and confirmed the death of this man who we later learned was from a musical group."

"He had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall. There was no way to do anything. " In recent years, Liam had been candid about his personal struggles, including battling addiction while on tour. He told the Guardian newspaper in 2019: "Doing a show to however many thousands of people, then being stuck by yourself in a country where you can’t go out anywhere – what else are you going to do?

"The minibar is always there." After One Direction announced their hiatus in 2016, Liam underwent therapy for two years. The pop star admitted that he initially struggled to deal with life away. Liam, who skyrocketed to fame with the hit boy band in his teens, opened up about his initial struggles, revealing: "It was difficult at the start, because I didn’t really know anything about myself. It was a bit of a numb feeling."

In a statement regarding his death, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

"At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."
