Aldi shoppers say 'not at that price' over 'extortionate' £3.50 crisps loved by TikTok
by Fionnula Hainey · Manchester Evening NewsAldi shoppers have hit out at the budget retailer for charging nearly £3.50 for a bag of crisps.
The supermarket, known for being the UK's cheapest, came under fire on social media after advertising one of its Middle Aisle specials this week.
The retailer is selling the popular Mexican snack Takis, rolled up tortilla chips that come in a range of spicy flavours. The tangy crisps are hugely popular in the United States and videos about the viral snack have been viewed billions of times on TikTok.

Aldi currently has 180 gram bags of the crisps in two flavours - Volcano or Dragon - on sale for £3.49. But shoppers have blasted the supermarket, describing the price as 'extortionate'.
Many pointed out that the same snacks are currently on sale in Morrisons and Iceland for just £3 for a 180g bag. Co-op also sells the crisps for £2 for a 100g bag.
Customers, who are used to grabbing bargains from the supermarket's famous middle aisle, said the snacks would be staying put on the shelves at £3.49 a bag.
"HOW MUCH??? That price is extortionate!!," one shopper complained on Facebook. Another added: "Not at that price! What are you playing at Aldi?"
"£3.50 for a bag of crisps?," a third asked, while a fourth added: "Why are they so expensive, they are crisps." Another commented: "They’ll be staying in the middle aisle at that price!"
Others complained that they'd expect a bigger bag for the £3.49 price tag. "My daughter loves these but I won’t be buying them not at that price and you don’t get many in the bag for the price they charge you," one shopper said. Another added: "£3.49 is a bit steep for a bag of tortilla."
Some shoppers suggested the supermarket should bring out their own version of the popular snack. "£3.49 get in the middle aisle and stay there until Aldi bring out their own Takkies," one commented.
Another asked: "Why do I have to remortgage my house to afford a pack??"
