Jose Mourinho's priceless reaction to Andre Onana's Man United heroics speaks volumes

by · Manchester Evening News

Former Manchester United manager and current Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho was in complete shock after Andre Onana's double save heroics in the first half of the Europa League tie.

United struggled to find their feet in the early stages but bagged an all-important goal on 15 minutes when nice link-up play eventually saw Joshua Zirkzee lay the ball off for Christian Eriksen to fire home. Since the goal, the game has evened itself out but as the half wore on, the Turkish club thought they had equalised twice.

Initially, Onana did well to get down to his right-hand side to palm away Youssef En-Nesyri's bullet header but as the ball came back in, the Cameroonian did sensationally to get back to his feet and tip another En-Nesyri header over the crossbar. The heroics left the strike in disbelief but Mourinho could not help but laugh.

The cameras caught him on the sidelines staggering backwards in his area, laughing as he tried to comprehend what he had witnessed from the United goalkeeper. Onana has a case to be man of the match for United so far thanks to those saves but another player to impress has been Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan has had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford but he was sensational in the first half against Fenerbahce. He won the ball back for United's counter prior to the goal and produced a wonderful last ditch block to keep the Reds ahead.

Ugarte's role as an enforcer this evening is why Erik ten Hag signed him in the summer. However, it will remain to be seen if he has done enough to keep his place in the starting XI on Sunday against West Ham.
