Manchester United 'plot double wonderkid raid' ahead of January transfer window

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United have been linked with an interest in Southampton’s breakout star Tyler Dibling, with the youngster said to be ‘one to watch’ in the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old has made a big impression in the Premier League so far this season and was on the scoresheet in Southampton’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich on Saturday afternoon. He has earned praise for his all-around performances despite the Saints’ struggles.

According to GiveMeSport, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s strategy over the next few transfer windows will be to invest in Under-21 talent and lower the age of the first team squad. Dan Ashworth is said to have shown previous interest in Dibling while he was at Newcastle, meaning that it may be no surprise if that interest is reignited when the transfer window reopens in January.

Elsewhere, another young up-and-coming player has been linked with a January move to Old Trafford. talkSPORT claims that United are following the progress of Sunderland’s teenager Chris Rigg.

The 17-year-old is highly rated in the Championship and scored a stunning solo goal in Saturday’s win over Middlesbrough. United are one of several teams said to be showing an interest but the report adds that the club could make a move for Rigg when the January transfer window opens.

An acquisition of Rigg would also fit in with the philosophy of signing young players to bring the age of the first team squad down. The teenager has been compared to Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham who started his career in the Championship.

Despite his tender years, Rigg has played a total of 32 first team games for Sunderland, scoring four goals. He is able to play at either attacking midfield or in central midfield.
