Tyson Fury takes swipe at Anthony Joshua after Daniel Dubois knockout

by · Manchester Evening News

Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has sparked his rivalry with British boxing sensation Anthony Joshua once again on social media.

Fury, aged 36, is currently gearing up for his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk later this year. The Ukrainian made history by becoming the first to defeat 'The Gyspy King', clinching a split-decision victory in Riyadh last May.

With this win, the 37-year-old became the first boxer to be named undisputed king of the heavyweight division since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

The pivotal moment in their initial bout occurred in the ninth round when Usyk delivered several sharp blows that seemed to almost knock Fury out. The Brit was left significantly shaken and was rescued by the bell, leading many to believe that the match should've been halted.

Following this painful loss, 'The Gyspy King' has returned to the drawing board, aiming to redeem himself against the Ukrainian, reports the Mirror.

Tyson Fury, not one to shy away from a bit of banter, has taken a playful jab at his boxing counterpart Anthony Joshua. The Gypsy King shared a humorous post on social media contrasting their diets.

Underneath a photo of Joshua, the caption read: "My breakfast consists of yams, eggs and dates. Followed by a big bowl of porridge, a protein shake, a glass of orange juice and a glass of honey lemon and ginger."

Meanwhile, an image of a less-than-svelte Fury carried the caption: "I remember one night I had 14 pints of Fosters and then sparred three top-ten heavyweights and battered them all."

Fury added his own cheeky remark below the images: "Just saying," followed by a laughing emoji.

The dig comes in the wake of Joshua's recent loss, where he was knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois. The boxing community is abuzz with speculation about whether Joshua will respond to Fury's taunt.

Calls for a showdown between Fury and Joshua have intensified since Joshua's defeat to 'Dynamite. ' Boxing legend Carl Froch is among those advocating for the match-up.

On his YouTube channel, Froch suggested: "AJ can have a bit of time off, sit back, and rest and recover and get his mind right and have a look at how Fury performs against Usyk. I think that's a safe plot and a safe path to exiting the game."

'The Gypsy King's' remarks were swiftly posted shortly after he intensified the banter with Usyk. Whilst Fury had appeared quite courteous in a recent face-to-face with the Ukrainian, he took to Instagram with an image showing Usyk connecting a shot during their prior clash in May.

His caption was unapologetically brash: "You had your shot but couldn't finish the job! Mistake! Now you're about to feel the wrath of A menace! F*** @usykaa f*** @klimasmanagement f*** @alex.krassyuk and if you're down with Usyk then f*** you 2! Gypsy king 2024 coming for you! Dec 21 is mine. Me against the world. Incoming 3x heavyweight champ! ".

Where many would retaliate, the reigning champ chose a more respectful retort, finding humour in Furys taunts. He replied on his official Instagram story: "You're really cool, my friend."

With just two months left until the highly anticipated rematch, Fury disclosed his training camp hadn't commenced, claiming a mere few weeks are necessary for him to prepare for the bout.

When questioned on his training progress for the upcoming fight, his relaxed response was: "I haven't started training yet."

He added: "I won't go into camp for a good while. I think I've got 13 weeks today until my fight. So, I'll probably start training in about six weeks for it. I do about six/seven weeks training for these fights usually and I'll be ready to rock and roll on the night. Roll on December 21, come on! ".
