Search underway for missing person after boat capsizes on River Thames

A search is ongoing for a missing person after a boat capsized on the River Thames.

One individual is unaccounted for and five others have been rescued after the boat overturned in Surrey on Friday morning.

Surrey Police were alerted to the incident at Sunbury Lock in Sunbury-on-Thames at around 8.50am on Friday. The public has been urged to stay away from the area while the search for the missing person continues.

An ambulance service spokesperson said three of the rescued individuals were transported to hospital for further examination.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: "We were called at around 8.50am this morning following reports of a small boat capsizing. We believe that there were six people involved in the incident, and five of these have been safely located.

"We are working to locate the outstanding person and will update you as soon as we have more information. Please avoid the area if possible."

A spokesperson for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service added: "Our crews are on site, working with the coastguard, Surrey Police and other agencies. Five individuals were rescued, and work is ongoing to locate a sixth."
