‘It’s a dream scenario' – Ruben Amorim is ideal appointment for one Man United star

Luke Shaw has been tipped for a major boost under the new management of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

The Sporting Lisbon boss will take over the reins at Old Trafford starting Monday (November 11), stepping in for the recently dismissed Erik ten Hag. The appointment has stirred excitement among United supporters, especially after Amorim's Sporting team triumphed with a 4-1 win against Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this week.

Amorim's tactical approach, which favours a three-at-the-back formation, marks a departure from Ten Hag's style and could prove advantageous for certain players at United. Former Chelsea, Everton and Scotland winger Pat Nevin believes that alongside Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are likely to thrive with the coaching switch.

Speaking to BetVictor, Nevin said: "When you look at players trying to get into Ruben Amorim's Manchester United side, it might help if you're Portuguese!

"There's been an amazing amount of positivity from Bruno Fernandes around the announcement. I think Manuel Ugarte, whom he worked with at Sporting, will be important for him.

"In the end it will really come down to who fits into his system, because he is going to play three at the back. That will suit certain players, but others, not so much."

Despite Shaw not having played for United this season due to an ongoing calf injury, with his last appearance for the club coming in February, Nevin believes he will greatly benefit from Amorim's management.

"It's a dream scenario for Luke Shaw," the former Chelsea winger commented. "He can play on the left of the back three, or as the left wing-back. Long-term, I think it will be harder for players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

"They're not young anymore and Amorim will want more dynamism in his midfield. I think it will be tough for them." Shaw, 29, was last seen playing for England in Euro 2024 this past summer, and recently faced a setback in his latest recovery efforts from injury.
