BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans issue plea after Toyah Wilcox breaks silence on 'her rock' after exit

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left issuing a plea to show bosses after Toyah Wilcox became the latest celebrity to leave the show. The singer and her dance partner Neil Jones faced the dreaded dance-off for a second week in a row.

The pair danced off against former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson and his partner Karen Hauer during the second results show of the BBC One dance contest's 2024 series on Sunday night (October 6).

They had to perform again the routines they'd already showcased as part of Strictly's epic Movie Week special, which aired live on Saturday night (October 5).

Toyah and Neil performed their samba to the song Poor Unfortunate Souls from The Little Mermaid a second time before Paul and Karen repeated their cha cha to the Magnificent Seven theme before the judges cast their votes.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all chose to save Paul and Karen, automatically sending Toyah and Neil home, with head judge Shirley Ballas then agreeing she would also have saved the former England international.

Following the show, Toyah took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and said: "Thanks for all your support, it’s been a great ride. Thank you to the entire Strictly team for one of the most exciting experiences of my life, and Neil you are my rock xxx."

Meanwhile, as the news was shared on Strictly's own socials, fans were left issuing a demand about Neil, who hadn't had a partner since the 2021 series before being partnered with Toyah this year.

@edmacalan said: "Just PLEASE don't bench Neil again." @yazgoesracing begged: "Please give Neil another partner next year! We don’t need him benched for another 4 seasons or whatever it was." @toadflaxie commented: "I'm just sorry for Neil - I would have liked to see him stay in a bit longer. I'm glad he got a partner this year."

@pennyb6099 posted: "Toyah was fab! She should have had at least another two weeks! Also, producers …Neil is a fan favourite don’t sub him again forever!" @tealtheo_photography added: "Aww they were fun to watch- was excited to see Neil back this year, bring him back next year!"
