This Morning caller in tears as he reveals he has months to live

by · Manchester Evening News

Wednesday's episode of This Morning resonated deeply with viewers as emotions ran high.

Discussing his own terminal cancer diagnosis, celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie had an emotional segment on the programme. The revelation of his remaining weeks moved viewers to contact agony aunt Deidre Sanders with their stories.

A particularly touching moment came when a caller sought advice regarding his own diagnosis. Speaking to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he shared: "I've been poorly for a couple of years and I was told on Monday that I've probably got four to six months."

The caller confessed he hadn't informed family or friends yet, asking: "I just wanted to see if, Deidre, you've got any tips or hints on how to tell people."

When his age was mentioned, ITV audiences discovered he was in his 40s, prompting Deidre to respond: "It's just doubly tragic when someone as young as you are."

Deidre suggested he communicate the news to his loved ones quickly, acknowledging the difficulty of this task by adding: "I know it's tough trying to find those words, it's partly your fear of what's coming, makes it very hard to find the words which is completely understandable."

She offered further support by agreeing to talk with him privately after the call, reports the Mirror. Others reached out for assistance, including a woman seeking help with her father's now terminal condition, who broke down while explaining her desire to support both of her parents.

She commented: "I've not long ago had my baby girl, which is their only granddaughter, I'm just really concerned on how to make memories with them."

Deidre then reassured the woman that she would provide further support off the air due to the serious nature of her concerns. The show became emotionally charged as the final caller, overwhelmed by her circumstances, needed assistance from Ben, who stepped in to articulate her plight. He related: "Sharon recently found out that her friend of over 45 years has the same pancreatic cancer that killed her father."

Viewers of the morning programme were left in tears by the poignant stories shared. Comments from the audience reflected the sombre mood with one viewer stating: "Good lord, this is a really hard watch today... ", while another remarked: "This phone-in is so sad."

A different individual shared their reaction by saying: "Just made a cuppa, sat down and the #ThisMorning phone in is just heartbreaking. Can't bear it, sending love to Nathan and Penny."

One person expressed: "I'm overwhelmed listening to this phone in," and another confessed via twitter: "11:28am and my tears start. Bless you, Nathan. Too young. It makes me realise I should appreciate life more and stop moaning about petty stuff!"
