Amazon's 'brilliant' Fire TV slashed by £200 perfect for replacing older models 'without breaking the bank'

Amazing picture quality is no longer limited to the most expensive TVs, and Amazon’s 43-inch fourth-generation Fire TV is a stellar example of top-end features available at a budget price. At £229.99, down from £429.99, this Alexa-enabled smart TV is packed with features, including 4K UHD resolutions, voice commands, Dolby audio, and full integration with Amazon’s smart home ecosystem comprising Echo Dots, smart lights and more.

Had a knock at the door that threatens to interrupt your five-episode binge of The Bear? Simply ask Alexa to bring up your front door camera and you’ll know in an instant whether it’s worth getting up.

Amazon lauds its Fire TV as an all-in-one home cinema system, and it doesn’t stop there. This Fire TV also comes with a wide selection of games, Spotify and Amazon Music support, and a clean, functional operating system that makes it easy to set up and switch between its countless features.

With a 4.4 star average rating from 1,110 Amazon users, the 43-inch TV has already proven itself a hit with customers looking for an upgrade. One user commented: “This replaced my old HD ready TV. I chose it because it was compatible with my Amazon account and it was on a special price for Prime Day. So far it has been everything I wanted. It will accommodate future technological advances without breaking the bank. The setup was pain free and so far the picture is great.”

They weren't alone in their praise. "The quality of this TV is excellent, until now I’ve been using a HD TV and the upgrade to 4K is amazing," a second shopper wrote.

Another five-star review said: “Video quality is fantastic with a great amount of settings to change it to your taste. Audio quality is very full, doesn't tear at high volume and has good base. Setup was quick and easy.” It’s worth noting that some budget TVs can show a decline in picture quality over the first few months, but this user returned to their review six months later to add: “TV still works great, no issue and no fall in product quality.”

Less positive reviews highlight that it can be a little slow — a common complaint with budget TVs which use slightly underpowered processors. “Takes a while to turn on and warm up. Can sometimes struggle to connect to Wi-Fi and needs a minute to sort itself out! (Don’t we all!)” said one customer, while another warned: "It’s slow to warm up."

If you’re looking for something more powerful and responsive, similarly-featured options include the SONY BRAVIA X75WL 50 inch LED 4K HDR Google TV, available from Currys for £619 (down from £649), which boasts a powerful processor capable of enhancing image quality, framerates, and contrast whilst enabling a smooth user experience. Alternatively, if you’re after picture quality beyond what’s offered by 4K LED panels, OLED TVs offer considerably stronger colour fidelity and crispness that many claim is worth the expense, such as with this LG OLED 42-inch UHD smart TV at £1,099 (down from £1,399, also from Currys).
