What we know about new Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club so far from cast to rumoured release date

The eagerly awaited Netflix film, The Thursday Murder Club, has completed post-production following the end of filming in September. Inspired by the series from renowned TV personality Richard Osman, the story follows a group of retirees who band together to crack unsolved murders.

Former Pointless presenter and House of Games star Osman wrote three sequels, namely 'The Man Who Died Twice', 'The Bullet That Missed', and 'The Last Devil to Die'.

The Thursday Murder Club will have an experienced casting line-up which includes acting royalty such as Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, the distinguished Sir Ben Kingsley, the versatile Celia Imrie, alongside other well-known faces and emerging talents.

With a surprise visit from Amblin's very own Steven Spielberg during shoots, even the celebrated author Richard Osman had a chance encounter with the film legend as they surveyed the film's progress.

What is the plot of The Thursday Murder Club?

A brief plot synopsis from Netflix reads: "The story follows a group of friends in a retirement home who gather to solve murders for fun but find themselves caught in a real case."

The film will be directed by Harry Potter and Home Alone director Chris Columbus and released by Netflix.

The film is adapted from Osman’s novel and is largely expected to be set in a peaceful retirement village where a group of four elderly friends – Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron – take on cold cases for fun.

The club springs into action when a property developer is found dead and they try and solve the mystery.

The core cast at the heart of the Thursday Murder Club is portrayed by a cast of accomplished actors you may well recognise.

Helen Mirren embodies ex-spy Elizabeth, Ben Kingsley takes on the role of ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, Pierce Brosnan plays exunion activist Ron, and Celia Imrie steps into the shoes of ex-nurse Joyce.

Additional confirmed cast members in named roles include Star Wars' Naomi Ackie as Donna de Freitas and The Crown's Jonathan Pryce as Stephen Best.

Other actors involved in the film but with unconfirmed roles are Doctor Who star David Tennant, Line of Duty actor Daniel Mays, Inbetweeners actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Saltburn's Richard E Grant.
