Man, 69, rushed to hospital after being hit by car as he crossed road

A man was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car as he crossed a main road in Stretford.

The smash happened on Edge Lane at around 12.30pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday, October 17). Police rushed to the scene following reports of a crash between a car and a pedestrian.

The 69-year-old man was crossing the road at the time he was struck, officers said. He was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said his injuries are thankfully 'not life-changing'. The driver remained on the scene to assist officers after the crash.

After the incident, a stretch of Edge Lane was taped off for several hours. Investigations were carried out within the cordon.

GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) now want to speak to any witnesses, or anyone with footage of the crash. Officers can be contacted by calling 0161 856 4741 or 101, quoting log 1420 of 17/10/24.
