Marvin Humes has shared his tribute to Liam Payne following his tragic death. The JLS star and his wife Rochelle were among those responding to the shock news overnight.

It was reported late Wednesday evening (October 16) that Payne had died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. He had attended his former bandmate Nial Horan’s Argentinian concert alongside his girlfriend Kate Cassidy earlier this month.

Local police said the singer fell from the third floor into the courtyard of the CasaSur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood of Argentina’s capital before medics confirmed his death, in a statement to the Associated Press (AP).

Police responded to an emergency call from the hotel manager who had become concerned for his welfare, AP said. The Foreign Office (FCDO) also confirmed it is in contact with authorities in Argentina “regarding reports of the death of a British man” but a spokesperson declined to comment any further, including on the identity of the man involved.

Following the news, Marvin shared a more recently taken picture of himself and Payne and said: "I first met Liam in 2008 with the JLS boys whilst auditioning for X Factor..he was 14 years old. We instantly clicked and looked at him as a little brother. That year it worked out for us but not for him and then 2 years later he went back to audition and One Direction was born... The rest is history."

He added: "Absolutely heartbroken by the tragic news..Liam you wanted to be a global superstar and you did it bro..just can’t believe that things have ended this way..it’s shocking..my thoughts and prayers are with all your family and friends brother..RIP."

Presenter and former The Saturday's singer Rochelle responded to her husband's post with a broken heart emoji before sharing a message on her own Instagram Story.

Sharing a picture of Payne, she wrote: "Sleep tight". She then reshared Marvin's post and commented: "SUCH heartbreaking news. Always had time for everyone, always kind, always a gent... Like the world we are speechless. Sending all our love and strength to your loved ones."

Marvin paid tribute to the former One Direction star

TV presenter Dermot O’Leary recalled Liam Payne auditioning for The X Factor as a 14-year-old boy, as he paid tribute to the singer following his death.

He rose to stardom at the age of 16 after forming boy band One Direction on The X Factor in 2010 alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles, having returned to the ITV show two years after his first audition.

Dermot, who hosted The X Factor during both of Payne’s appearances, shared a photograph of the pair on stage, captioning the Instagram post: “The worst news”.

"I remember him as a 14-year-old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing,” he wrote. He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble."

Singer Olly Murs, who starred on The X Factor a year before One Direction, said on Instagram that he was “lost for words”, describing Payne’s death as “devastating”.

"We always had a good laugh when we saw each other, sometimes the catch ups were only short and sweet but when we did it was mostly about how annoyingly good his hair always looked, or our love for Becks, the old XF (X Factor) days and the tour we shared together," he wrote beside a picture of the pair.

He added: "Liam shared the same passions as me, the same dreams so to see his life now end so young hits hard, I’m truly gutted and devastated for his family and of course his son Bear losing a dad.”
