Three police cordons in place as man attacked in street after two-car smash

A man was rushed to hospital with 'life-changing injuries' after being attacked following a two-car crash in Chadderton last night.

The smash between the two vehicles happened on Denton Lane at around 11.30pm last night (Tuesday, October 22). Police believe that after the crash, the man was assaulted.

Emergency services descended on the scene and the man was rushed to hospital with injuries described by Greater Manchester Police as life-changing. A 22-year-old man and 22-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

Both suspects remain in custody to be questioned. This morning, pictures showed a cordon in place on a stretch of Denton Lane.

Two badly damaged cars - a Mercedes and an Audi - were pictured within the taped off area. Debris from the crash was left strewn across the road.

Police said a further two cordons are also in place on Lansdowne Court and Apfel Lane. Investigations into the incident are now underway.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At 11:30pm last night (Tuesday 22 October) we were called to reports of collision between two vehicles on Denton Lane in Oldham. It’s believed that a man was assaulted at the scene.

"He was taken to hospital for further treatment. His injuries are believed to be life-changing.

"A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. They remain in police custody.

"Three scenes remain in place on Denton Lane, Lansdowne Court and Apfel Lane. Enquiries are ongoing."
