Teen arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after 'targeted' stabbing

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was injured in what police have called a 'targeted' stabbing. The 18 year-old, who hasn't been named, remained in police custody today - Friday - for questioning.

Emergency services were called to the St John's Court area of Radcliffe, in Bury, at around 3.45pm on Thursday. A 20 year-old man found injured was subsequently taken to hospital.

In an update today, police described his injuries as serious, but not believed to be life-threatening. Greater Manchester Police also revealed he was taken to hospital by a member of the public. It's thought he was 'chased' by another male with a knife before he was stabbed, said GMP.

The force said: "An arrest has been made and an investigation is underway following the stabbing of a man in the St John’s Court area of Radcliffe.

"At around 3.45pm yesterday, officers responded to reports that a male was being chased by another male armed with a knife. Shortly after, it was established that a man aged 20 had been taken to hospital by a member of the public, having received a stab wound. While serious, his injuries are thankfully not believed to be life-threatening. The attack is believed to be targeted, with no wider threat to the public.

"Within hours, officers quickly secured the arrest of an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning. Officers remain in the area as they carry out their enquiries and will be present for the coming days. As their work continues, they are appealing for information to help progress their investigation."

The force has issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Kenyon, from GMP’s Bury district, said: "This was a horrific act in broad daylight and would have been a terrifying incident for those who witnessed any part of it. The victim remains in hospital and is likely to have a long road to recovery in front of him. I am glad that our officers were able to quickly secure the arrest of a man following the attack.

"These sort of incidents have no place on our streets and anyone who is involved in such violent acts can expect a knock on the door from us. Officers will be in the area to provide reassurance so you can expect to see lots of high-visibility patrols.
