by · Manchester Evening News

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was injured in what police have called a 'targeted' stabbing. The 18 year-old, who hasn't been named, remained in police custody today - Friday - for questioning.

Emergency services were called to the St John's Court area of Radcliffe, in Bury, at around 3.45pm on Thursday. A 20 year-old man found injured was subsequently taken to hospital.

In an update today, police described his injuries as serious, but not believed to be life-threatening. Greater Manchester Police also revealed he was taken to hospital by a member of the public. It's thought he was 'chased' by another male with a knife before he was stabbed, said GMP.

The force has issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Kenyon, from GMP’s Bury district, said: "This was a horrific act in broad daylight and would have been a terrifying incident for those who witnessed any part of it. The victim remains in hospital and is likely to have a long road to recovery in front of him. I am glad that our officers were able to quickly secure the arrest of a man following the attack.

"These sort of incidents have no place on our streets and anyone who is involved in such violent acts can expect a knock on the door from us. Officers will be in the area to provide reassurance so you can expect to see lots of high-visibility patrols. As we continue with our work, I would urge anyone with information to please get in touch with us. If you saw something or believe that you have any knowledge of the incident, your assistance could greatly aid our investigation.”
