Coronation Street's DS Swain gets death shock as Joel Deering's laptop holds evidence

by · Manchester Evening News

Coronation Street airs a sinister twist in upcoming scenes as the data from missing Joel Deering's laptop reveals a dark murder threat. Earlier this year the truth about the solicitor's evil crimes was uncovered but as justice seemed like it was about to prevail, he disappeared.

It was previously revealed in the ITV soap that Joel was Lauren Bolton's 'secret boyfriend' and was behind her disappearance and presumed murder after he was seen attacking her with a chair leg.

But it was Roy Cropper who went from the trauma of being falsely imprisoned over Lauren's 'death'. But was eventually freed when Bethany Platt's groomer Nathan Curtis was framed by new police office Kit Green.

However, Lauren did survive Joel's attack and returned to Weatherfield when Roy fell ill following his prison release, and she was revealed to be pregnant with Joel's baby.

After Lauren's return, Joel's partner Dee-Dee Bailey discovered what her fiancé had been up to and has since teamed up with DS Lisa Swain to bring Joel down after it was revealed that Lauren wasn't the only young girl he had groomed, with Swain's daughter Betsy also involved with the evil solicitor.

But the latest discovery could end badly for DS Swain for a number of reasons, as the discovery is linked to her and her daughter, the Mirror reports. Viewers know Betsy blackmailed Joel for money weeks ago, and soon she got caught up in his crimes.

Betsy confessed to her mother and the police recently that he got her to call up a health clinic and pretend she needed abortion pills. He later used these pills to try and kill Lauren's baby son Frankie, with the baby now having been born prematurely and left seriously unwell.

But last week, viewers saw Joel not show up to his plea hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest. After transferring money to Lauren and his ex-wife Emily, it was believed Joel may end up taking his own life. The police found his car abandoned and a note, with him also leaving ex Dee-Dee a message on her phone.

Amid Dee-Dee speculating he's on the run, a discovery by Kit Green next week leaves him and Swain reeling. Lisa is called into the office by colleague Kit who says the data from Joel's laptop they obtained has been retrieved and sent over to him.

Something he has found on the laptop has worried him, and soon Lisa is left gasping and on the verge of tears over what she sees. In a preview clip for Monday's episode, Kit tells Swain she has to see what he's found and that it's linked to Betsy.

There are text messages discovered, with a thread between Joel and Swain's daughter. Swain is visibly reeling as she reads them, and it reveals Joel threatened to murder her daughter. He tells Betsy he will kill her for her betrayal, after she told the police about the pills.

Betsy tells him she isn't scared and that her mum is a police officer. It's then that Joel warns: "She can't help you if you're dead," sending teen Betsy death threats - threats that she never told her mum.

Swain lets out a gasp, horrified about the messages and the fact if Joel had done as he had threatened to, she could have lost her daughter.
