Residents reported hearing gunshots before seeing ambulances and police vehicles flood the residential street before the area was cordoned off.

Pictures taken from the scene on Monday night showed a large cordon in place, stretching from Rosgill Walk to Brigstock Avenue.

Detective Superintendent Gareth Jenkins of GMP said: “The shooting that occurred earlier this evening will understandably cause concern within the community, however our investigation is moving at pace and two arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

“I would like to reassure the community that this is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public. Extra patrols have been deployed for reassurance and I would urge anyone with concerns, or information to share, to speak with them.

“Likewise if you have any footage that could aid our investigation - whether it be CCTV, doorbell or dashcam – please make a report. Guns have no place on our streets and we are determined to hold those responsible for this senseless act to account.
