UK weather forecast predicts 'warm to HOT' Indian Summer

by · Manchester Evening News

The UK might experience an Indian Summer in the coming days, defying earlier snow predictions, a weather expert has claimed.

Despite the Met Office forecasting "unsettled conditions" and a temperature drop for next week, James Madden from Exacta Weather suggests we could be in for some unexpectedly warm weather. Sharing his insights on Facebook, he stated: "Warm to HOT weather for October is set to arrive on cue, but it won't be entirely straightforward for certain dates we have covered."

Madden indicated that a spell of warmer weather could start as soon as mid-next week. He elaborated: "High pressure rises towards the start of the upcoming week will allow for some much warmer conditions for the time of the year across some large parts of the UK and Ireland".

He added that temperatures could soar well above the October average of 14C, potentially reaching over 20C or the low 20s in the warmest areas around midweek.

According to Madden, this bout of warmth will occur in two phases. He predicts that on Thursday and Friday (October 17-18), "a major area of low pressure" may sweep in, potentially bringing a swift halt to the milder weather, reports the Daily Record.

"Many northern parts of the country and across Ireland are likely to become temporarily and very unsettled over a number of days," he said.

"It could also become temporarily cooler and unsettled in other parts of the country," he added. However, next weekend should bring about some more sunshine.

Madden said: "It is also around next weekend at the latest that we also expect some even more significant high pressure rises to start taking effect and drawing some further warmer to even HOT temperatures for October across our shores for the time of year and for several days."

The Met Office's forecast from Tuesday to Thursday (October 15-17) suggests a rise in temperatures, though it stops short of predicting an Indian Summer. "Heavier rain spreads in from the south on Tuesday and Wednesday and it will turn warmer across the country. Cooler from Thursday with a few showers and sunny spells."

In its long-range forecast running up to October 26, the Met Office anticipates unsettled conditions. "Through the second half of next week conditions will be very unsettled with rain affecting most regions at times," the forecaster predicted.

"The heaviest rain is likely to be in the west or southwest to begin with, but later in the week, the focus probably shifting to central and eastern areas. Following the rain, a drier and brighter interlude is probable, before conditions turn unsettled once again by next weekend."

The same weekend is set to experience "above average and probably feeling warm in the brighter spells," and as the month draws to an end, there will be "more settled conditions" with "temperatures falling closer to average and some overnight frost and fog."
