Fire crews and paramedics descend on street after reports of gas leak

Fire crews and paramedics descended on a main road in Bury on Sunday afternoon (October 13) following reports of a gas leak.

Emergency services were called to Bury Road in Tottington at around 4.45pm to reports of a gas leak at a house. Witnesses reported seeing three fire engines along with ambulances, near to the Juniper and Vine pub.

The fire service confirmed that the leak had been stopped before crews arrived. Safety checks were carried out, with Cadent Gas officials remaining at the site.

Crews were in attendance for around 35 minutes before the scene was later cleared. Three fire engines along with police and paramedics blocked the road on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just before 4.45pm on Sunday (October 13) three fire engines from Bury, Whitefield and Ramsbottom fire stations were called to reports of a gas leak at a house on Bury Road, Tottington.

“The leak had been stopped before firefighters arrived. Crews carried out safety checks in the property before handing over to colleagues from Cadent Gas. GMFRS were in attendance for around 35 minutes.”
