Hundreds of free katsu curries to be handed out at four Manchester restaurants this week

by · Manchester Evening News

Four restaurants in Manchester will be giving away free curries later this week to coincide with Katsu Curry Day.

Far Eastern restaurant Tampopo will be celebrating the occasion, which takes place this Friday (September 27), by giving out 100 portions of its famous Japanese curry at each of its restaurants.

And with four locations across Greater Manchester taking part, that means there will be 400 portions to give away on the day itself. Tampopo has said they are expecting huge demand for the offer and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

On Friday, the restaurant chain will be hosting a special Katsu Curry Hub outside each of their venues, where the first 100 in line will be able to pick up a free meal.

The offer will run from 11am at the city centre restaurants in Albert Square and Corn Exchange, alongside its restaurant at The Trafford Centre as well as its East Street kiosk spot within the shopping centre's The Orient too.

David Fox, Co-Founder of Tampopo, said: “Katsu Curry Day is the perfect occasion for us to give back to our amazing Tampopo community and to share one of most popular dishes - and a great way to welcome the Autumn.

“Our Katsu Curry has been honed to perfection over 27 years and we’re delighted to invite Manchester to come and celebrate with us.”

Elsewhere, Tampopo recently unveiled its ‘biggest menu evolution to date’, which featured around 70% of new and refined dishes, including a Yamato fillet steak, a Thai-style omelette, Schezhuan pork belly, and its traditional green curry.

Tampopo’s free Katsu Curry giveaway will take place at each of its Manchester venues from 11am until 1pm (or when they’re gone) on Friday (September 27).
