BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans' same complaint about Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez’s show first

Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez left fans with two of the same complaints following their performance as they joyously and emotionally executed a Strictly Come Dancing first.

It was a big week in the world of the BBC One dance contest on Saturday night (October 5) as week three of this year's competition became the annual Movie Week special.

The show opened with a group number from the show's professional dancers who transformed into minions from the Despicable Me franchise while Kai Widdrington, who was left without a celebrity dance partner this year, appeared as the film’s villain, Gru, donning a bald head and a prosthetic nose.

It was then time for the remaining couples to take to the ballroom floor following last weekend's shock first dance-off and elimination of the series.

Amongst them was Morning Live's Dr Punam and Spanish dancer Gorka who performed the first couple’s choice of the show’s 20th anniversary series to Bole Chudiyan from the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, coming joint second scoring 33, and causing Ballas to exclaim "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" as per her Mary Poppins dress-up.

Ahead of the performance, Dr Punam explained that she wanted to do a Bollywood dance to "bring my culture and my heritage to the forefront". Speaking during rehearsals, she said: "I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television so to be doing now an Indian dance on a platform like Strictly is huge."

She told how she lost her grandad, who lived in India, during the Covid pandemic and said "he'll be watching and he'll be really proud, as will my mum". She added: "We didn't grow up with much, we didn't have a lot, but we got there."

Asked by host Claudia Winkleman what it meant to her to perform a Bollywood routine afterwards, Dr Punam struggled to hold back tears as she said: "It meant everything." She added: "I feel like I just went to four-year-old me that would have loved to see something like this when I was growing up, and I guess you just can't be what you can't see."

Strictly viewers quickly flocked to social media to praise the routine and they were actually left with two very specific complaints - it wasn't long enough - because they wanted to see more - and they weren't scored highly enough for their liking.

@littlemissgwendolen said: "Far too short, I could’ve watched them dance for hours. Bollywood week should definitely be made a new category. Just imagine the dances, the music, the outfits! It would be amazing." @fromkelltobell commented: "Two complaints…… undermarked and not long enough. Absolutely loved this!! I don’t think I even watched Gorka."

@elr320 wrote: "Incredible, I think they have been undermarked every week. Dance of the night." @yorkshirerosecandles shared: "One complaint, it was too short. It was amazing and I didn’t want it to end." @atvfriend added: "Punam and Gorka What a treat watching a new genre of dance, Punam danced her out, and she enjoyed her best dance, and I loved, more please #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly."
