Why Gary Neville is not on Sky Sports for Aston Villa vs Man United as new job starts

by · Manchester Evening News

All eyes will be on Manchester United this afternoon when they take on Aston Villa at Villa Park in a meeting that could be decisive in the future of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

After losing to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and failing to overcome FC Porto in the Europa League - despite being 2-0 up - Ten Hag remains under intense pressure. The Manchester Evening News understands United are set to stick with the Dutchman, for now, but question marks still linger.

Defeat at Villa Park and United could feel the increased need to appoint a new manager in October's international break. By contrast, a win in the Midlands might well be a turning point - and a possible catalyst - for United to turn things around under their former Ajax manager.

Sky Sports provide the coverage of the game for fans in the United Kingdom but anyone keen to catch what Gary Neville has to say on United will be in for a surprise. The former defender is not doing his usual job at Villa Park this afternoon and is instead working for NBC Sports Soccer.

Neville is usually on co-commentary during United games and is renowned for his post-match rants after defeats. However, he's in the United States today to work for NBC Sports' coverage of the Premier League.

Due to the partnership with Sky Sports, Neville is expected to appear on your screen throughout the day, though, to provide his analysis. In August, Neville joined the USA sector as a "special contributor" in collaboration with Sky Sports. He contributes to the channel each Sunday as part of the Premier League schedule and he will cover games from the NBC Sports' International Broadcast Centre in Stamford 'multiple times'.
