Oasis will head off on their huge reunion tour across the UK and North America next year

Oasis fans fume at ‘disgraceful racket’ after noticing one big difference for North American shows

Oasis fans with tickets to see the legendary Manchester band when they tour the UK next summer have expressed their frustration after noticing a big difference with the North American shows.

The Gallagher brothers announced details for their North American tour dates yesterday, which will kick off in Toronto, Canada, on August 24 before heading to Chicago, East Rutherford, Los Angeles and Mexico City.

Whilst fans looking to get tickets to the newly-announced shows will have had to register for access to a pre-sale ballot system, one major difference that was announced yesterday is that the tour will not follow Ticketmaster’s ‘dynamic pricing’ model.

The process, which the platform refers to as ‘market price’ tickets, led many customers seeing tickets for the original UK dates skyrocket from £148 to £355 due to demand. The move was later debated in the House of Commons, whilst the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have both said they are 'reviewing' the ticketing market after receiving complaints.

In a statement yesterday, Oasis said the model won't be used again for the North American dates "to avoid a repeat of the issues fans in the UK and Ireland experienced recently."

The band said that whilst ‘it is widely accepted that dynamic pricing remains a useful tool to combat ticket touting’, it becomes ‘less effective and can lead to an unacceptable experience for fans’ when paired with huge fan demand.

The news and the statement itself has, perhaps expectedly, not gone down too well with those who already had to pay above the estimated costs for tickets to the UK Oasis shows. Posting on X, one person said: “It's unreal that they're trying to maintain that falsely inflating the prices by more than 100% is actually a tool to combat touting, rather than a tool to exploit fans loyalty…”

One other posted: “Made in the UK we will rip off our own and charge normal prices overseas. nice.” Another added: “Oasis clearly ripping off UK fans..”

Others encouraged the band to issue refunds to those who had originally purchased UK tickets. One other person posted on X: “Refund the difference to all those who have paid the dynamic pricing model cost to date - that would be the honourable and morally correct thing to do.” Another asked: “Will they refund the UK fans they fleeced? …. Didn’t think so!”

Watford FC podcaster Rookery Mike posted: "I’d be delighted if @Oasis or @TicketmasterUK could show me any evidence of dynamic pricing/platinum tickets ever being made available at “lower than the market rate and thus more affordable”. It’s a disgraceful racket. Nothing more, nothing less.”

Ticketmaster has been approached by the Manchester Evening News for comment.
