US Election 2024 Live Updates: From Barack Obama to Beyonce – Kamala Harris rolls out A-list admirers to make her case

by · Mint Business News - Official Channel · Join

As the US presidential election campaign heats up with less than two weeks until polling day, both candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, exchanged sharp criticisms of one another.

Former President Donald Trump, during his campaign in Pennsylvania, lashed out at Vice President Harris, claiming that if elected she would "guarantee" the United States would enter World War III and would be ineffective in dealing with global leaders like Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Hill reported.

"To make her president would be to gamble with the lives of millions of people. She would get us into a World War III guaranteed because she is too grossly incompetent to do the job," Trump stated.

The former first lady highlighted the attack on abortion rights as a sign of potentially harmful restrictions on women’s healthcare. She cautioned that while some men might consider voting for Trump out of frustration with the slow pace of progress, “your rage does not exist in a vacuum."

While Harris was with Obama in Michigan, President Joe Biden visited the Laborers’ International Union of North America in Pittsburgh. He mentioned that Harris once walked a picket line with the United Auto Workers — “she has a backbone like a ramrod" — while Trump has undermined organised labour, AFP reported.

All attention is focused on the high-stakes battle on 5 November between US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump.

US Election 2024 Live Updates: Trump again denigrates Detroit while appealing for votes in a suburb of Michigan's largest city

Donald Trump further denigrated Detroit while appealing for votes Saturday in a suburb of the largest city in swing state Michigan.

“I think Detroit and some of our areas makes us a developing nation," the former president told supporters in Novi. He said people want him to say Detroit is “great," but he thinks it “needs help."

The Republican nominee for the White House had told an economic group in Detroit earlier this month that the “whole country will end up being like Detroit" if Democrat Kamala Harris wins the presidency. That comment drew harsh criticism from Democrats who praised the city for its recent drop in crime and growing population. (AP)

Aviv Bushinsky, a political commentator and Netanyahu's former chief of staff, similarly said: "His experience with Republicans is very good... unlike with the Democrats who are much tougher on him." (AFP)

US Election 2024 Live Updates: A century after Native Americans got the right to vote, they could put Trump or Harris over the top

Native American communities were decisive voting blocs in key states in 2020, and with the 2024 race remaining stubbornly close both campaigns have tried to mobilize Native voters in the final weeks of the presidential election.

But when it comes to messaging, the two campaigns could not be more different, many Native voters said. It’s been 100 years since Native Americans were given the right to vote, with the passage of the Snyder Act in 1924, and whichever campaign is able to harness their power in this election could swing some of the most hotly contested counties in the country. Israel unleashed a predawn airstrikes against military sites in Iran on Saturday, saying it targeted facilities used to make the missiles fired at Israel earlier this month along with surface-to-air missile locations.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry says the total toll over the past year there is over 2,600 killed and 12,200 wounded. The fighting in Lebanon has driven 1.2 million people from their homes, including more than 400,000 children, according to the United Nations children’s agency. US Election 2024 Live Updates: Who does Donald Trump see as 'enemies from within'?

Donald Trump's allies have tried in vain to persuade him to stop venting his rage against “enemies from within" in the campaign's waning days. But he keeps going.

In his rallies and interviews, the former president is increasingly fixated on the Americans he believes have wronged or betrayed him. They are worse, he says, than foreign adversaries of the United States. And he's made plain his desire to use the power of the federal government, including the military, to go after them.

“The crazy lunatics that we have — the fascists, the Marxists, the communists, the people that we have that are actually running the country," Trump said this month at a rally in Wisconsin. “Those people are more dangerous — the enemy from within — than Russia and China and other people." (AP)
