EPL: He can create chances – Ian Wright on player Arteta should give more playing time

Arsenal legend, Ian Wright has called on the club’s head coach Mikel Arteta to give midfielder Ethan Nwaneri more playing time.

Nwaneri didn’t feature in Arsenal’s Champions League 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

But he played as a substitute when Arsenal were defeated 2-0 against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

However, Wright wants Arteta to give the 17-year-old more game time, particularly as captain Martin Odegaard is currently recovering from injury.

He noted that Nwaneri has the ability to create chances.

“You know what I think with Odegaard missing as well, when I saw Merino, Partey. and Rice, I was thinking, listen, Nwaneri the youngster.

“Against Bournemouth, if you have got those two as a double pivot, whether it’s Declan and Merino, I think you need somebody like Nwaneri – who can create something. Because I think that’s what is majorly missing. Somebody needs to beat someone,” Wright said on the Stick to Football podcast.
