Car flips onto roof after crashing into lamppost in Plymouth

A car flipped onto its roof after crashing into a lamppost in Plymouth during the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, October 23. Emergency services were called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash, along Embankment Road, around 12.55am.

After the collision, the vehicle ended up on its roof, police have said. The male driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was checked over by emergency services at the scene.

Eyewitnesses told PlymouthLive a lamppost was seriously damaged in the collision. One person said: "Been a crash along the embankment up from the petrol station, cars on its roof and has bent lap post in half."

Another person also said: "Crash Laira narrows coming onto embankment looks bad".

The road was closed while the car was recovered and the fallen lamppost was cleared away.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has said: "Officers were called around 12.55am today, 23 October, following a single-car collision on Embankment Road in Plymouth. The car was in collision with a lamppost and overturned onto its roof. The male driver sustained minor injuries and was checked over by ambulance.

"Police closed the road outbound from Laira due to the fallen lamppost and for the car to be recovered. The incident was left in the hands of Highways from 2.30am."
