Plymouth murder suspects believed to have fled scene on foot

Police officers overseeing a murder investigation in Plymouth say the two suspects they are searching for are believed to have fled the scene on foot.

Devon and Cornwall Police launched a murder investigation this morning (November 5), after a man was fatally stabbed in Cambridge Road in Ford on Monday and sadly passed away at the scene.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Fleetwood, confirmed on Tuesday morning that the identities of the two suspects are known to police. And now, DCI Fleetwood has shared an update that no vehicle was involved in the incident, and the suspects are believed to have made off on foot.

DCI Fleetwood said: "We are carrying out inquiries locally and throughout the force area. Two suspects have been identified and we are actively searching for them.

"No vehicle was involved in the area and it is believed the suspects made off on foot. As such we are very keen for anyone who lives in Cambridge Road, or any adjacent road, with video doorbell systems or CCTV, to come forward with footage.

"We are particularly keen for anyone who has footage or who was in the area between 2pm and 4pm on Monday, November 4."

DCI Fleetwood went on to assure residents in the Ford area about increased police presence in the neighbourhood in the coming days.

He added: "We are now utilising our major crime resources on this investigation. Our local neighbourhood teams will be seen in and around the area over the next few days, carrying out high visibility patrols, to reassure the public.

"There's nothing to suggest this incident took place in the Keyham and Ford area because of any past occurrence. Plymouth - particularly the areas of Keyham and Ford - have experienced previous tragedies, and has always come together. When something like this happens we are mindful that this can have an impact on local people.

"To the residents I would say don't be alarmed at the presence of the neighbourhood teams in the area over the next few days. They will be engaging with residents throughout the days ahead, and we want the public to understand that that's the reason for their presence, not because we believe there is further threats in that area."
