Woman dies after crash as boy fights for life in hospital

A little boy remains in a life-threatening condition after the tragedy in Cornwall

A female driver has tragically lost her life in hospital following a collision with a school bus in Cornwall. The woman, aged in her 30s, and a young boy, sustained severe injuries in the incident, which occurred on the B3296 Meaver Road in Mullion on Monday (October 14).

Emergency responders were called to the scene at approximately 8:40am, and the woman and young boy, who were occupants of a silver Vauxhall Astra, were rushed to hospital.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that the woman, from Cornwall, has since passed away from her injuries. The young boy is still fighting for his life at Bristol Children's Hospital. Their next of kin are aware.

The police have also disclosed that 27 pupils on the school bus suffered minor injuries in the collision, while one child sustained more serious injuries, although these are not deemed life-threatening.

Sergeant Phil Brown, of the Serious Collisions Investigation Team, said: "We are working in conjunction with the school and our partners to ensure everybody receives the support they need following this tragic incident."

"Our thoughts continue to be with everybody involved."

The police are still appealing for information from anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the crash. Anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage that may aid the investigation is urged to contact the police via their website or by dialling 101, quoting reference 50240260109.
