Woman dies at scene of serious crash at Whiddon Down

A woman in her 40s suffered fatal injuries

A tragic incident occurred on the A30 last night when a woman lost her life in a collision at Whiddon Down at around 10pm.

The accident happened on the eastbound carriageway and saw a Scania lorry collide with a silver Kia Ceed. The passenger of the car, a Cornwall woman in her 40s from Helston, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, a man in his 60s also from from Helston, sustained minor injuries and received care at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

As of this Wednesday morning (9am), the eastbound lane of the A30 is still closed for investigative work, with an advised diversion for affected drivers.

Devon and Cornwall Police: "Police closed the A30 for an examination of the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered. Highways are currently on scene working to clear and reopen the road."

"Officers are conducting enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They would like to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam footage. Please contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log 835 of 15/10/2024."
