Enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures, the weather is expected to take a major turn in the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the Interior, including the South Okanagan, Thompson-Okanagan and Shuswap areas.

"A vigorous cold front will cross the province on Wednesday bringing with it very strong winds aloft and an unstable airmass that is ripe for the development of strong wind gusts, heavy showers and potentially thunderstorms," an Environment Canada statement said.

The weather warning is calling for a late-season thunderstorm which is expected to bring very strong wind gusts and locally heavy downpours to the Fraser Canyon, North and South Thompson, Nicola Valley, Similkameen, Okanagan Valley, Shuswap, Columbias, and Kootenays on Wednesday.

The storm system is expected to continue moving east towards Golden and Creston as it makes its way to the Alberta border.

It could bring very strong wind gusts leading to potential broken tree limbs and power outages. Boaters and watercraft users are advised of sudden strong gusts over lakes.

Motorists are advised of potential strong crosswinds over high-elevation highway passes susceptible to crosswinds. These potential thunderstorms are expected to bring repeated heavy downpours which could lead to locally heavy rainfall totals, localized flooding and water pooling on roads.

There is a heightened risk of debris flows over areas impacted by burn scars.
