A motorcyclist has died in a morning crash on Highway 97 in West Kelowna.

The northbound lanes of Highway 97 remain closed at Grizzly Road Thursday morning, following a crash between a motorcycle and a large truck carrying a crane.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a press release, the RCMP says the driver of the truck has remained on scene and is fully co-operating with police.

"No criminality is suspected at this time and the investigation is ongoing," says RCMP spokesperson Ryan Watters. "The RCMP reconstructionist has been called to attend."

Traffic is being re-routed around the crash area, but police have asked drivers to avoid the area entirely if possible.

West Kelowna traffic has come to a standstill following a serious crash that's believed to have involved a motorcycle.

RCMP in West Kelowna are asking that commuters avoid the northbound lane of Highway 97, at Grizzly Road, while DriveBC now says the highway is now closed in both directions in the area.

DriveBC says the crash occurred at Highway 97 and Grizzly Road, and Google Maps traffic data shows traffic backed up from Grizzly to Daimler roads.

Staff Sgt. Brendan Dolan says traffic is being routed down Elk Road, though he said it would be better to avoid the area altogether, because the traffic will be at a standstill for some time.

Witnesses at the scene said the crash appeared to involve a motorcycle, and is believed to have been a fatality.
