UPDATE: 4:41 p.m.

Mounties arrested three people at a home in Upper Sahali on Wednesday after responding to a report involving "violence and weapons," police say.

A portion of Highway 5A was closed in both directions just before 2 p.m. as police, including the RCMP's southeast district emergency response team, responded to an address on Carmel Court, RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

She said "a residence of interest" was identified while police were investigating and the emergency response team was called in to assist due to the nature of the report.

“The highway was reopened about an hour later, following the arrest of three people who are known to police,” Evelyn said.

She said Mounties will release no further details related to the investigation to protect its integrity.

Anyone with information that may be related is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.

UPDATE: 2:53 p.m.

Highway 5A between Hugh Allan Drive and Aberdeen Drive has now reopened, but there's still no word on what police were dealing with that had it closed.

RCMP spokesperson Crystal Evelyn confirmed just before 3 p.m. that the highway has been reopened.

She also said an update regarding the police presence will be provided once available.
