Another slow start dashed the West Kelowna Warriors hopes of sweeping their first Alberta road trip.

The Warriors were able to battle back from three and two goal deficits but came up just short Saturday, losing 5-4 in a shootout in Spruce Grove.

Still, the Warriors, who came into the trip on a five-game losing streak picked up three of a possible four points from the road swing.

But, it was that first period when the Saints built up a 3-0 lead that put the Warriors behind the eight ball forcing them to again chase the game for the final 40 minutes.

Unlike Friday when they scored five straight after falling behind 3-1 in Sherwood Park, the Warriors were unable to complete the comeback.

Sam LeDrew started the comeback just past the midway mark of the second, tapping home a pretty three-way passing play from the edge of the crease.

Dylan Krayer brought the Warriors to within one with a power play goal less than two minutes later when Jack Pridham's shot deflected off him and past the netminder.

But, it was the power play that again coughed up an untimely shortlanded goal, the sixth they have surrendered through 13 games that restored the two-goal lead.

LeDrew got that one back on the same power play then Cal Hughes tipped home Pridham's shot from the right point with Dawson Labre on the bench that tied it and forced overtime.

The 10-minute extra period solved nothing setting up a shootout.

Stephen Kirkpatrick beat Labre in the fifth round of the shootout to end it.

The Saints outshot the Warriors 36-20 on the evening including 5-1 during the overtime period.

The Warriors, 4-6-2-1, will host the Brooke Bandits Friday night on Happy Gilmore night at Royal LePage Place.
