Halloween ushers in cool weather and a chance of flurries for Kelowna.

Temperatures are expected to be fairly cool when kids head out to start collecting candy tomorrow night.

“Right around trick-or-treating time, skies are expected to clear. As they do, temperatures will fall. In the early evening period, expect temperatures around 3 or 4 C,” predicts Environment Canada meteorologist Jonathan Bau.

After the candy has been sorted and the little Barbies and minions have gone to bed, it’s going to get even colder. The Thursday night low is zero, and that means a possibility of snow on Friday morning.

“We have a weather system moving in from the coast. That will generate kind of showery, flurry type of activity.

“Because of the overnight low near freezing mark Friday morning, some of that precipitation will start as snow. As the temperatures warm up that should switch over to rain showers for Friday afternoon,” said Bau.

He says snow is possible at the valley bottom, not just on higher terrain. There’s also a slight chance of flurries on Saturday.

“In terms of the probability of precipitation and the amounts, we’re not expecting too much on Saturday, but expect unsettled weather through Saturday,” he adds.

Temperatures are forecast to be slightly below normal, with a high of 4 C on Friday and 5 C on Saturday.

Bau notes that it's not usual to see the first snowfall of the season around Halloween.
