UPDATE 2:41 p.m.

Vernon RCMP say the break in at Dollarama on 31st Avenue occurred at about 3 a.m. Friday.

Police were called at about 7:20 a.m. when staff arrived to the downtown Dollarama to find the front glass door smashed. Const. Chris Terleski, with the RCMP, says frontline officers arrived and cleared the building, but did not find anyone inside.

“Investigators have determined the break-in occurred around 3 a.m when the suspect smashed the front door, entered the business, and fled with a quantity of merchandise from inside,” said Terleski in an email.

Mounties say anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or might have information related to the break in should contact the RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file # 2024-18121.

ORIGINAL 11:25 a.m.

The Dollarama in downtown Vernon is temporarily closed Friday morning as employees deal with a smashed front door.

Both the inside and outside double doors were smashed, and employees are working to clean glass up.

Employees aren’t too sure what’s happened at this point, but it looks like lighters, chocolate and energy drinks were taken.

The store should be reopening sometime today – they’re currently working to tape up the front door.
