A Kamloops man has been handed a court date and conditions after allegedly assaulting a woman with a rock downtown.

Police were called at about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday to a commercial location in the 600-block of Seymour Street, where a woman was found with an obvious head injury, police said.

“According to the investigation so far, the victim was allegedly assaulted with a rock, then made her way from Victoria Street to a business on Seymour Street to request medical assistance,” said Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“She was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

A suspect was located on Fifth Avenue and taken into custody, Evelyn said. He was later released on an undertaking, according to police.

Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to the incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
