Two police officers were assaulted Wednesday while arresting an intoxicated teenager, Kamloops Mounties say.

According to police, officers were called to a report of an intoxicated youth at about 6:30 p.m. They located the teen near Sunnycrest Avenue and Holt Street.

RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said the youth fled on foot, but was caught and arrested.

“The youth allegedly became combative and assaulted two police officers, using physical force and spitting directly in one’s face,” Evelyn said in a news release.

“The combative behaviour continued in cells, where the youth was lodged to sober up safely, then be assessed by the Integrated Crisis Response Team.”

The teen was later released with a court date and conditions.

Charges have not been laid but the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can call police at 250-828-3000.
