Hwy 5 open after fatal crash

UPDATE: 2:58 p.m.

DriveBC is now reporting that Highway 5 between Keatly Road and Orchard Lake Road has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic following a fatal crash before 7 a.m. this morning.

RCMP say a woman died in a single-vehicle crash. She was the lone occupant in her vehicle.


UPDATE: 12:40 p.m.

One person has died in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 5 north of Vinsulla, the RCMP BC Highway Patrol has confirmed.

The highway in both directions has been closed for hours between Kealty Road and Orchard Lake Road, 15 kilometres north of Kamloops due to the crash

The female driver and lone occupant of the vehicle died at scene, RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin told Castanet Kamloops.

Drive BC initially reported the incident as a multi-vehicle crash.

McLaughlin said there was conflicting information when the collision happened, but, after evaluating the evidence, BCHP investigators are now confident there was only one vehicle involved in the collision.

BC Emergency Health Services told Castanet they were called to the scene just before 7 a.m., responding with two ground ambulances and a helicopter and did not transport anyone to hospital.

The Highway remains closed as of 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The estimated time of reopening is 4 p.m., according to DriveBC.

A detour is available via Highway 24.

A multi-vehicle crash has closed a portion of Highway 5 in both directions north of Kamloops.

DriveBC is reporting that the incident is between Kealty Road and Orchard Lake Road, 15 kilometres north of Kamloops.

The road has been closed and a detour is not yet available.

DriveBC said an assessment in progress and warns road crews and equipment will be at the scene.

The next update is expected in the next couple of hours.
