Coyotes' shootout victory
by Sarah Crookall · CastanetThe Osoyoos Coyotes won their first shootout of the season against the Merritt Centtials Saturday night, ahead of Tuesday's game.
In a social media post on Sunday, Osoyoos Coyotes shared the team's 3-2 home win at the Sunbowl Arena.
Both teams were without goals in the first period, until the Centennials scored early on in the second period. But just a minute and a half later the Coyotes matched with a goal of their own, scoring another later on in the period.
Osoyoos' 2-1 lead was carried by Mason Rudolph and Dexter Materi.
In the third period, the Centennials caught up to make the leaderboard 2-2, which led to overtime.
"Three-on-three five minutes of bonus hockey was a nail bitter, which saw the Coyotes have two unsuccessful breakaways, including one while defending a four-on-three Centennials powerplay," reads the Osoyoos Coyotes' post.
"Regulation and overtime shots were 44-29 in favour of Osoyoos, including a dominant 15-3 second period margin."
That's when the Centennials carried a 9-3 shot advantage in overtime. However, it was not over.
"Hunter Arntsen earned the win in net, allowing the Coyotes to split the weekend home-and-home against the Centennials."
Following the game, the Osoyoos Coyotes are 6-6-0-0, making them fifth in the Bill Ohlhausen Division, heading into their next game against Princeton, Tuesday night.
