by · Northlines

India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has achieved a career milestone by climbing above former captain Virat Kohli in the ICC Test player rankings. Pant's stellar innings of 99 in the second innings of the recently concluded Bengaluru Test helped the left-hander gain three positions to reach the sixth spot in the batting charts. Kohli, who scored a well-compiled 70 in the first innings, dropped one place down to eighth position.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to be the highest-ranked Indian batter, holding onto the fourth place. Captain Rohit Sharma has slipped two places to joint 15th alongside Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne. Among others, New Zealand duo of Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway made notable progress, rising 36 and 12 places respectively. For his match-winning figures of 8 wickets, Kiwi pacer Matt Henry also rose two places to ninth place in the bowler's rankings.

England's Joe Root still leads the batting list by a considerable margin. In the bowling rankings, Indian duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah remain at the top, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja holding seventh place. This proves to be a morale-boosting achievement for the young Pant who is playing a vital role with the bat for India in all three formats of the game.
