4 Picks For FPL Gameweek 10: Matheus Cunha And Which Liverpool Players
by James Nalton · ForbesThere is one standout fixture FPL managers will be eyeing in Gameweek 10, but there could be value to be had across the league as teams in the bottom half of the table face each other.
There is one fairly obvious captain choice, but going against the grain in this round of games could pay off.
There is a 12:30 p.m. GMT kick-off on Saturday morning so managers making last-minute changes will need to watch out for the early deadline at 11 a.m. GMT, though it’s not as troublesome as as week’s Friday night start!
Here are four things to consider ahead of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.
Liverpool at home - who to captain?
The only one of the three title challengers playing at home this weekend is Liverpool, who face Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side is also the only one of the three with an FPL Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) of easy.

This could be slightly trickier than expected due to the fact Liverpool also played Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but Slot rotated his team quite heavily and will field a stronger lineup for this Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.
Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah are almost certain to start having sat on the bench for much of Wednesday’s game, and the latter will likely be the most popular captain choice this Gameweek.
Cody Gakpo scored twice in Brighton to make a case to start once again, meaning Luis Diaz is not 100% certain to feature.
Kostas Tsimikas could get the nod over Andy Robertson at left-back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will be back in the side.
As covered last week, Caoimhin Kelleher remains in goal in place of Alisson and still costs just 4.4 at the time of writing.
Is Chris Wood injured?
It is not exactly going out on a limb to suggest including Chris Wood in your team.
He brought a return of two goals and three bonus points following last week’s recommendation ahead of Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 win against Leicester.
He was taken off with a knock at the end of that game, though, leading to doubts as to whether he will play in this weekend’s fixture against West Ham.
FPL currently says Wood is an injury doubt with a 75% chance of playing, but the player himself has said he’s OK and his club will want to include him in another game it will see as winnable to continue its impressive start.
“He just stood on my foot and it’s one of those,” Wood said of the injury after the game. “Hopefully it should be alright. Nothing too bad.”
At the time of writing, Wood’s Value had risen by 0.4 since the start of the season. This is the highest among FPL strikers alongside Erling Haaland, Nicolas Jackson, and Danny Welbeck.
It’s likely to rise again as he could be in line for another productive Gameweek.
Keen on Michael Keane?
At his original price of 4.0, Everton defender Michael Keane has been one of the most productive low-cost additions to an FPL defence this season.
Of players costing less than 5.0, only Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne and Forest’s Ola Aina have more points than Keane, who remains the lowest-priced player in this bracket despite his price rising to 4.2.
Everton travels to the worst team in the Premier League, Southampton, this weekend, and will be expecting another solid performance in a game its fans will be expecting to win.
The only issue for the 1,080,180 FPL managers who have transferred Keane in so far this season is that Jarrad Branthwaite, who started ahead of Keane for most of last term alongside James Tarkowski, is now recovered from injury.
But Everton manager Sean Dyche has regularly praised Keane and could stick with him, especially as he is also a goal threat at set pieces and has scored twice already.
“I’m not sure about best finisher at the club but I’d say I’m up there!” Keane said after his goal against Ipswich in Gameweek 8.
Matheus Cunha
As mentioned last week, Raúl Jiménez remains a popular option in the striker department as an alternative to Wood, but Matheus Cunha could also be a solid pick this week.
Wolves are at home to Crystal Palace this week and Southampton next and have a generally favourable run for the foreseeable future as they seek their first win of the season.
Of course, they are down at the bottom of the table for a reason—they haven’t been very good, but there will be motivation to improve against fellow strugglers in the coming weeks.
Matheus Cunha already has four goals in a bad team, so could start to score even more if Wolves can start to turn things around.
One of Wolves’ full-backs, Nélson Semedo or Rayan Aït-Nouri could also be worth a look.
