Strange Darling—Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner’s critically acclaimed serial killer thriller—debuts this week on digital streaming.

The film opened in limited release in theaters on August 23. Written and directed by J.T. Mollner, Strange Darling features actor Giovanni Ribisi’s debut as a cinematographer.

Told is a fractured narrative format akin to Pulp Fiction, Strange Darling is presented in six chapters out of order.

The film begins with Chapter 3, where a character only identified as The Lady is seen running in slow motion through an open field. As it turns out, The Lady is being chased by a man with a shotgun called The Demon (Gallner) and he is determined to kill her.

As the chapter unfolds, it’s revealed that the cat-and-mouse chase at the beginning of the film stems from an erotic encounter between The Lady and The Demon that’s spun out of control.

In addition, as each chapter is told, it becomes apparent that the scenario in Strange Darling isn’t as cut-and-dry as it seems.

Per AppleTV+, Strange Darling will make its debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday. The film will be available on a variety of digital platforms including AppleTV+ and VUDU, which each have the film listed for pre-order for $19.99.

While Strange Darling has a big twist, star Willa Fitzgerald said in a phone interview prior to the release of the film in theaters that the success of the film doesn’t completely hinge on the reveal.

“It’s definitely the most fun way you can watch it by not knowing details. I’m sure with the more people that see it and when it does happen [and the big reveal gets out], it will still be a movie that surprises you,” Fitzgerald said. “What’s so great about this script and this movie is about the journey of the whole and not one specific thing that happens.

“Even after people see it and things are getting written, I think Strange Darling will still maintain that essential element of surprise just because of how the movie accomplishes it,” the Reacher Season 1 star added.

Rated R, Strange Darling debuts on PVOD on Tuesday.
