Coraline—Laika’s stop-motion animated hit from 2009—is returning to theaters this Halloween after a successful 15th-anniversary run on the big screen in August.

Directed by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas filmmaker Henry Selick, Coraline, per Variety, earned $53 million at the worldwide box office during its celebratory run to boost its global tally to 185.7 million to date.

“Everyone at Laika is elated by the global success of the Coraline re-release and we’re delighted to offer one more chance to see it this year during Halloween festivities,” Laika’s Chief Marketing & Operations Officer David Burke said in a statement (via Variety).

Fathom Events, which distributed Coraline in theaters for its 15th Anniversary run, will once again distribute the film domestically in 2D and 3D for its Halloween release, while Trafalgar Releasing will handle international distribution.

According to Fathom Events, Coraline is coming back for two nights only—on October 31 and November 1. According to Variety, audiences who attend the film will get a sneak peek at Laika’s upcoming stop-motion animated film Wildwood.

Coraline was the first stop-motion release from the studio. After that, the studio released the stop-motion hits ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and The Two Strings and Missing Link. All five of Laika’s stop-motion films have been nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar.

What Is ‘Coraline’ About?

The official logline for Coraline reads, “A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life–only much better.

“But when this wondrously off–kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her counterfeit parents try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to save her family and get back home.”

Dakota Fanning stars as the voice of the title character in Coraline, which is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Neil Gaiman. The voice cast also includes Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Keith David, Jennifer Saunders and Ian McShane.

Apart from Coraline, director Henry Selick’s credits include the live-action and stop-motion features James and Giant Peach and Wendell & Wild, as well as the live-action film Monkeybone.

Coraline will return to theaters on October 31 and November 1.
