HMD Skyline Receives Android 14 Update with New Digital Detox Feature

by · Nokiamob

HMD Global has begun rolling out the latest Android 14 update (version V1.480) to its HMD Skyline smartphone, offering users several system improvements and a valuable new feature—Digital Detox Mode (announced with Skyline).

The update weighs in at 294 MB and includes essential system stability enhancements, a refreshed user interface, and the September 2024 Google Security Patch.

The key highlight of this update is the Digital Detox Mode, designed for users who want to reduce screen time and avoid digital distractions. The provided screenshots illustrate how to easily add the Detox widget to the home screen, making it convenient for users to activate this mode with just a tap. Here’s a quick guide on setting it up:

  1. Press and hold any empty area on the home screen to open the widget menu.
  2. Type “Detox” in the search bar to find the Digital Detox Widget.
  3. Drag and drop the widget onto your home screen.
  4. Release to confirm the widget’s addition.

When activated, Detox Mode helps users disconnect by restricting access to apps and notifications, encouraging a much-needed break from constant phone use. This feature aligns with the growing demand for digital well-being tools, aimed at promoting healthier usage habits. However, Google has already covered you with a Do Not Disturb app where you can do the same things as Digital Detox but with a bit of graphically less appealing UI.

Watch for the notification if you haven’t received the update on your HMD Skyline device yet.

In addition to the Skyline, HMD Fusion and Vibe devices have also received updates. The Skyline and Fusion models are getting the full OTA (over-the-air) update, while the Vibe is receiving an incremental update. All three models have had their security patches bumped to September 2024 (Cheers h_1995 for the tip).
