Coaches Poll top 25: Indiana surges into top 10, Iowa State tumbles in college football rankings

The undefeated Hoosiers continue their dream season in the first year of the Curt Cignetti era

Ohio State jumped one spot to No. 3 in the new USA Today Coaches Poll on Sunday following its 20-13 win at Penn State. The Buckeyes trail only undefeated Oregon, which beat Ohio State head-to-head in Week 7. The Ducks earned 53 of 54 possible first-place votes.

Beating the Nittany Lions on the road finally gave the Buckeyes' resume some meat after they navigated the first two months of the season feasting largely on overmatched and unranked competition. As a result of its first loss, Penn State dropped four spots to No. 7.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Indiana rose from No. 13 to No. 10 after improving to 9-0 with a 47-10 win at Michigan State. It marks the first time in program history the Hoosiers have started 9-0 as the program rides a remarkable start to coach Curt Cignetti's tenure.

As for the SEC, Georgia held firm at No. 2 after a relatively sloppy 34-20 win over injury-plagued rival Florida. Texas A&M also dropped five spots to No. 16 following a 44-20 loss at South Carolina. Tennessee crept up a spot to No. 6 following a 28-18 win over Kentucky.

Clemson and Iowa State were each booted from the top-10 after losing as home favorites in conference action. The Tigers landed at No. 17 while the Cyclones dropped to No. 18
